ELBERTON, Ga. — A young car crash survivor from Elberton is finally getting to go home after months of intensive rehab from the devastating injuries he suffered on March 3.
Initially, doctors didn’t know if he’d survive the crash. He was airlifted to the ICU with severe injuries that included brain bleeds in seven different areas and multiple fractures.
But he held on — and he kept fighting.
He was later transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to begin the long road through inpatient rehab. He had to relearn how to walk, talk, even how to brush his teeth.
But through every single step of that journey, his mom was right there. She’s never left his side. And neither has their community.
Elberton has shown up in a big way. Prayer circles, fundraisers, meal trains — they’ve surrounded the family with love and support.
And his baseball team? They’ve been all in. His teammates signed a baseball for him to hold in the hospital. They wear his name on their wrists and hang his jersey in the dugout every game.
The three things Paxton loves most are his mom, baseball, and ketchup — and he still has the chance to love all three.
On Wednesday he’s going home, a testament to his incredible determination through a recovery and rehab that’s nothing short of a miracle.
